7 Classic Pieces That You Can Wear for All Year and for Years

I didn’t realize until I sat down to write this post, brainstorming something to include that was worth while instead of just outfit detail links, that this outfit is classic. While I know that all bloggers, or “digital publishers” as I like to now refer to myself {insert eye roll AND laughing crying emojis here}, love to describe most outfit posts, “swipe ups” and their style using this word, let me explain. Classic, to me means slightly plain, versatile, not flashy, conversative, chic and not trendy. It means to me something that you could, and would want to, wear years to come or to multiple functions. It is works for date night and brunch with the in-laws, I figure is is classic and a must have. {hint: these are the reasons that I most dress up. Or for a break from my constant uniform of workout clothes.}

The seven items in this outfit post are classic to me. Not only can, and will I, wear them year around, but I plan on wearing them for years to come. Please keep reading for my breakdown and reasoning for each, going from head to toe.

Classic Aviators

While for a couple of years there, these classic aviator sunglasses were seen in a majority of my outfit posts, I have recently moved on to these BLACK AVIATORS. Both are classic, not flashy and could easily, and did, work in the 1980s and hopefully for 80 years from now. While these Ray-Ban aviators are the ultimate classic, they are very fragile. I have purchased at least 10+ pairs as replacements and they are over $100. These BLACK AVIATORS are sturdier, cheaper {here for under $50, here for under $70} and a little more “cool girl.”

All closets need a classic pair of sunglasses. Ones that don’t make a statement, but you still feel cool in; ones that are oversized enough for early mornings without being aggressive and ones that you feel are flattering to your face. Although a bestie or mom’s opinion is always encouraged as a back up.

Open Front Cardigan

I am not quite sure when I became obsessed with open front cardigans. Actually, that is not completely true: it was after seeing The Holiday movie for the first time and lusting over Cameron Diaz’s wardrobe in that movie. They became a closet stable for me when pregnant {they easily cover the belly during any trimester} and after for nursing, {they are a built in nursing cover and blanket}. I have worn them over gym clothes, over pajamas, with shorts for playdates, with jeans for date night, and everything and anything in between. I have been wearing the one pictured non stop {currently on clearance} but love this fuzzy open front cardigan.

Last weekend, I brought this one in beige to a party that would carry on into the evening. It acted as a jacket but was cozier and easily went with my navy and white top and jeans, as it does with the outfit in this post. I truly think it is a stable. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality on this one, even though the retailer is a time warp from high school. The contrast of the light with the dark is fun to look at, but also think about getting a top and cardigan in one color tone to create a chic and timeless monochromatic look.

Lace Cami

If you’ve been following along this winter and spring, you know full well that my going out uniform has been a lace cami and DOUBLE BREASTED BLAZER. I was surprised, as I often am, how expensive some camisoles can cost. {this lace cami is a blogger favorite but is $150+}. I  have this LACE CAMI in multiple color ways. While I do not think the quality will last years and years, as much wear as I have already gotten out of them, I am ok replacing them every so often.

Statement Accessory

While mine in this post is this GUCCI BELT, I couldn’t recommend or suggest more investing, or getting a piece on the cheap, that you feel makes an outfit. That is the final pieces that pulls any outfit together and makes you feel as good as you look. Nope, you don’t have to spend as much money as I did on a piece, but makes sure it makes you feel good and feel like you look good {cause you do!}.

Great Fitting Jeans

These jeans were an impulse purchase from the Nordstrom sale a couple of years ago. They were my first designer jean purchase since before getting pregnant and I truly think I only bought them because I was in the lowest size jeans of my entire life. Yet, year later, they are still a go to. The style and cut makes me feel good, they aren’t trendy with washes or distressed so I can easily wear them anywhere. I’ve worn them countless times during the day chasing my little ones and countless times at night, chasing cocktail. Again, I know that they are expensive. But everyone looks different in jeans, so find a pair that are versatile and make you look and feel great.

Chic Carry All Handbag

If you watch my stories, you see that I have a major addiction to Saint Laurent handbags. I have more than I can count and, literally, stalk the new styles every single day. This TOY SHOPPING TOTE BAG was a birthday present to myself that I purchased on my birthday trip to Rome last fall. The style of this bag and the quality are timeless. I also love the shape and that I can throw anything in there, yet it still works as a crossbody.

Again, you don’t have to spend a lot on anything, but find pieces that are timeless that work with your style and your budget. This style is extremely versatile for my life but I also love the chic minimalistic style of it, so I feel like it is dressier than a flashy bag = timeless/classic/versatile.

Timeless Pumps

Every women needs a power pump in their closet. I truly don’t know how I would spend all day {and night} in heels in my 20s living and working in New York, but now, comfort is the highest priority in shoewear {hashtag mom life}. The very first time I wore these timeless pumps, I was on my feet for most the day at a church function and was still comfortable. Now, that is mommy brain for you: to wear a new pair of heels to a function where you will be on your feet for hours.

These shoes I recommend for multiple reasons: 1. the heel isn’t too high 2. they are comfortable and especially for heels 3. they come in multiple colors 4. the cut out detailing making them anything but basic but classic as the same time 5. they go on sale. All. The. Time.
