This pre makeup skin routine is something that I do every single day. Sunscreen is so important, even if you think that you will be just inside. Those UV rays can find you through the windows of your home, office and especially in your car. In a rush, or a chill day, I will just do this and some mascara. It was fun to IGTV this for the first time as I was able to see just how glowy these products make your skin, without a touch of makeup.
And check out my IGTV sharing all the products on my feed!
1- Rinse with water: I only wash my face with soap and water when I’m wearing makeup or at the end of the day. Otherwise, I let my combination skin not get too dried out with just washing with water.
2- Toner: I started using toner about 12 years ago when I finally had found a facialist that I liked and that I went to regularly. {ahhh, my 20s when I had time for that. I haven’t had a facial in about 8 years. If you have a great San Diego recommendation, let me know!}
As I said in the IGTV, I switch up toners to keep my skin on it’s toes. I don’t have a formula for what works and just pick whatever toner that day. These are the three currently in rotation
Andalou Illuminating Toner: The spray bottle is instantly refreshing. Made with Vitamin C, this promises to restore your skin’s natural pH and help with skin tone, i.e. dark spots.
Pixi Glow Tonic: I like when products feel like they are working, also known as “tingling.” This one is made with Glycolic Acid, promoting “healthy glowing skin.”
Arcona Triad Pads: These have been part of my skin care routine for probably 5 years. They have cranberry in them, which is supposed to help with skin tone. These are also a great end of the day makeup remover. Use them after washing your face with soap and water to get any makeup left behind.
3- Rejuvenating Serum: I don’t use this product every day, again, trying to keep my skin on it’s toes. But this serum is beyond. Obsession with this brand is next level {read all about it HERE}. I use this after I use my toner.
4- Lotion: I have combination skin: some areas are dry, some are prone to breakouts. So I need a face lotion everyday, otherwise my skin feels tight and uncomfortable. But I also need a product that isn’t greasy but not too light. The lotions below check all the boxes for my bipolar skin.
Bliss Drench & Quench: Another amazing Target find, this lotion has it all {except SPF}. It is light, non greasy but really hydrates. A beauty find about 6 months ago that I tell everyone about.
Botanics Hydrating Day Cream: I was introduced to this brand after doing a sponsored post, but am now a super fan. Super clean and organic, their entire line is amazing. This day cream is perfect for when I’m feeling a little extra dry, or when I am not in a rush to leave the house. Since it is organic and clean, it doesn’t have any chemicals that increase absorption, like most face and body lotions, therefore the whiteness lingers on your skin for a minute. Those chemicals that increase absorption also cause cancer, so I am willing to deal with giving this cream a little extra time to absorb.
5- SPF: Living in California for most of my life, I started wearing sunscreen on my face everyday at about 16. In high school, we had a big grass quad that everyone would sit on for lunch and hangout on after school. Between that, field hockey practice and riding horses, I was always in the sun and learned early the importance of sunscreen. I wear it every. Single. Day. And you should too!
Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense: This, I stared using about 2 months ago. I thought it would have more of a tint, but I do like the light color that works on all skin tones.
BeautyCounter Mineral Sunscreen Mist: This I keep everywhere and apply to the back of my hands everyday. Being in the car most of the day running around with the kids, hand sunscreen is a must!
Glossier Invisble Shield : This is another one I didn’t talk about in the IGTV, but is a favorite. Super light but 35 SPF, you will totally forget that you applied it, it is that light.
When I do have time or the desire to apply face makeup, I only use concealer and foundation that has SPF in it, so I feel like I am getting all the sun coverage I can. I know that the math doesn’t work like that: I am not wearing the equilvalent of 90 SPF, but it gives me confidence against the sun when I have makeup on my face with SPF.
I plan on sharing my easy day makeup IGTV next week. Truth be told, I’ve tried to film it 3 times, with interruptions, missing makeup or kids. So fingers crossed I can get it filmed during this quarantine!
