Our daily schedule truly changes from day to day. With me running two businesses from home, my husband’s work and two cuties, there are unexpected changes all the time. Yet, here is an example of our daily schedule with two kids.
hat: LACK OF COLORS FEDORA || dress: NAVY POLKA DOT DRESS || booties: ANKLE BOOTIES
5:30 ish: Who’s ever turn it is to workout first thing, gets up, sneaks downstairs, where their workout gear is ready for them and head to the gym {him} or OrangeTheory {me}.
7/730 ish: The kids wake up. I normally get workout clothes on and go into Leo’s room first, since he is still in a crib and I feel bad making him wait in jail. I open his curtains, turn off his WHITE NOISE SOUND MACHINE and get him out. If we have a busy morning or have to be in the car by 8:30am, I try to convince him to let me get him dressed for the day. Otherwise, he prefers to stay in his pajamas for breakfast. Next, onto Madrid’s room. She has been doing this thing lately where she pretends to be asleep, even though I can here her playing and that is normally what wakes me up. She prefers to get dressed for the day right away.
7:30am: Downstairs for breakfast. I normally start with giving the kids these PEANUT BUTTER BARS. This is quick to put on a plate and buys me some time so that they don’t get hangry, and I can make sure the alarm is off, get the dogs outside and begin their breakfast shuffle {one outside to do their business. Next one outside for water and breakfast. Then the quick switch, etc.} Then back to the kids. A normal breakfast is greek yogurt {non flavored, no sugar} with granola or protein pancakes. Whomever worked out first is normally home by the time breakfast is under way. Then, the person who got the kids up takes their turn at the gym. If I am organized, I will jet out the door immediately to head to the gym, otherwise, I dilly dally, catch up with Fernando and head to our home gym upstairs.
8am: Finish cleaning up dishes from the night before, empty the dishwasher, fold laundry from the dryer the night before, get myself breakfast, etc. Three days a week we have to be in the car by 8:30am, so I might have to run upstairs to finish getting dressed or brush my teeth.
8:30am: In the car on school days. Otherwise, we head upstairs to talk to my husband while he gets ready for work or the kids play, as I head to my office down the hall to wrap up and send out packages that sold from the night before. {if you want more information on my clothing resale business, check out these posts.}
9:30am: If I am not drowning in my office, or feel so inclined to shower after my 6am workout class, I shower and get everyone finished ready, change clothes that need to be changed after breakfast, etc. One day a week, we need to be in the car by this time for dance class. Another day a week, we either have an appointment or paydate that I try not to schedule that I have to be in the car before this time.
9:30-11:30: Either an outdoor run with Leo on Madrid’s preschool days or music class, or run errands: Target, the supermarket, etc. On days that I am swamped with the blog or clothing sales, I can easily convince Leo to come back to the house and play with his sister’s toys in my office.
11:30am: back to pick up Madrid on preschool days.
12: Head to lunch with my two cuties!
12-2pm: Finish running errands, playdates, playgrounds, lunch, etc.
2pm: Home for last minute pre nap wiggles out. If the kids have been away from the house all morning, they always request to play for a little before nap time. I will try to get home with enough time that this doesn’t push nap time back too much. I am successful about 20% of the time.
2:30/3pm ish: Get the kiddos down for their naps.
Leo
I tend to always do Leo first. I change his diaper and get him into pajamas. I straighten up his crib, makes sure he has his favorite stuffed animals and water in his crib, as well as a board book or two. Regular books, he will rip to shreds then call me into his room in about 45 minutes to clean up a snow storm. I hold him and begin to sing him a song {his requests are normally “Mama’s going to buy you a Mockingbird,” “Twinkle, Twinkle” or a song from Coco.}, while I turn off the light, close his drapes, turn on his sounds machine and his fan in the warmer months. I sing a song or two, while Madrid is in the room with us, or in her room waiting. I put him down in his crib, wide awake and say that I love him and to have a good rest. I have been putting him down in his crib wide awake as long as I can remember. He has always known that this is nap time and I won’t be back until it is over. He plays for a couple of minutes, sometime 4 sometimes 45, and soothes himself to sleep.
Madrid
After Leo, we head to Madrid’s room and she goes potty, we wash her hands and she either changes into pajamas or requests to stay in her day clothes. That is the joy of a 4 year old: you will know what they want, most of the time. I give her a kiss and a hug at the door, a recent request from her and she reads and plays for a while. Sometimes she takes a rest, sometimes she stays and had quiet time in her room. I don’t really set a rule but there has been days that after 30 minutes, I will hear her coming downstairs. On the day that I am writing this post, she said she wasn’t tired for a nap and came downstair to watch me eat my lunch. I put her in my bed with me, with the full intention of taking a nap with her. Within 2 minutes, she was snoring and I was thinking about my ‘To Do’ list. I snuck back downstairs and headed to my office. Yet, most days, he stays in her room for 2-3 hours, either resting, napping or “reading.”
2:30/3pm ish: This is normally my first break of the day and I will sit and have lunch, if I didn’t eat out with the kids. Then I clean the kitchen, most likely from breakfast, start to make a mental list about dinner and head to my office. I will work until the kids wake up or Fernando comes home from work, whichever comes first. Now…I know that this is crazy but my kids are very good nappers and, more times than not, will not wake up until the 6pm hour.
6/6:30pm ish: If Madrid wakes up earlier, she will come to my office and play or we will head to the kitchen about 5:30pm to start getting dinner ready. I will cook dinner for the four of us and Fernando normally returns home about this time. If I am very organized on the cooking, when he gets home, I will sneak upstairs for a shower. Once dinner is ready for the table, most days, we need to wake Leo up from his nap to join us.
7pm: Family dinner, no TV, no iPhones, is VERY important to us. We ask the kids what they are thankful for during prayer. I let the kids tell Fernando about our day. They normally last about 30 minutes and then play, so we can have a couple of minutes at the table, catching up or having a glass of wine.
7:30ish: Head upstairs for bath. Both kids bathe in Leo’s bathroom. I don’t know why we started it that way, especially since our first home only had two bathrooms. As the tube is filling up, the kiddos play, we clean and organize their rooms, get pjs out, etc. Madrid: goes to the bathroom, then brushes her teeth and gets in the bath. Leo: brushes his teeth, gets nudy and gets in the bath. After bath: lotion, pajamas and a book. Then we ask the kids who they want to put them down and we divide and conquer. They have caught on that bedtime will take a little longer if they ask for me to do both of them and for “dada, you go clean the kitchen.”
7:45ish: It is a similar routine that we have for nap time. The kids turn down the lights, {each of their night lights is a chandelier with a dimmer}, I put on the sound machine for Leo and sing him a song. He is normally, calmer for bedtime put down, but I still put him in his crib wide awake. I walk out the room, signing the song of his request. Then onto Madrid’s room, where I normally just keep singing the same song. She climbs into bed and I kiss her goodnight.
8pm ish: Downstairs to clean dinner, do laundry, I get a shower, if I haven’t already, fold laundry and head to my office. Towards the end of the week, we might have a class of wine and sit in our formal living room, or watch something on TV. I really can’t tell you the last time we did the later.
I would love to say 9pm, lights out, but it tends to be between 10 and midnight. 10 is a good day, midnight, we are both up working.
