I think I might be the queen of making my pedicure last. Even though I work out everyday and run a ton, I can easily make my pedicures last for about a month, if not longer.
How to Make Your Pedicure Last
Take a Break
Take a break every so often, from your toes having a color. I took about a 6 month break recently {crazy, I know!} just to let the nails grow, not be fussed with or covered up in lacquer. If I had an event or party that I wanted to were open toe shoes, I would do 1-2 coats of Ballet Slippers and then take it off within 24 hours. Honestly, my toe nails have never looked better at the beginning of this summer, so I will be implementing this “break” again, once I’m not in sandals most days.
Let Them Breathe for 24+ hours
I don’t nap under sheets, wear close toe shoes or mess with my feet for as long as possible. I like to get my pedicures before noon, then plan on being in sandals for the rest of the day. If we have something to be at, then I plan on what I’m wearing around open toe sandals or heels. Because all my running shoes had roomy toe jams for comfortable happy toes while running, I haven’t noticed a problem with working out but never the same day.
My most recent pedicure, I wore these navy sneakers the next morning to go to Lion King and I got one of those weird smug-y things, where the paint is bunched up, almost like it was pushed back. I was pretty pissed that I didn’t follow my own rules.
Lotion, lotion, lotion.
After the shower, I put on lotion on my legs and toes. This keeps the skin and cuticles moisturized so, as your nails grow, your pedicure will still look fresh.
Don’t Pick
I am a self described picker. I don’t really love to pick my nails, but am always caught picking my cuticles. Leave your gorgeous toes alone! Don’t fuss and they will continue to look fresh.
Know Your Shape
Know what shape of your toes is the best for your feet and activity. As I am a runner, I know that if they cut too much off the corners of my nail, it hurts and caused ingrown as they grow out. Know what to ask for for your feet.
Bring Your Own Polish
I’ve heard that most places dilute their polishes down to make the bottles last. The places I go {below} don’t seem to do this, and I’ve never had a problem at my spots, but bring your own color, just in case. That way, you can also patch it up if it chips
