The ‘Friday Five’ series started as a way to share things that I’ve been thinking about the week before, items I recently ordered and kind of a blogger roundup. Welp, Quarantine Life happened so it has kind of turned into a survival guide of sorts. Last week {see the post HERE}, I shared what on my ‘To Do’ list I am tackling and how I’m keeping the kids busy. This week, I wanted to make it a little more light hearted.
In a text box that I shared on my IG stories this week, I got requests for more beauty, so check out all the beauty products I’ve been hoping arrive on my doorstep.
1- Beauty Products I’ve Ordered
While I’ve joked that we better all emerge from this Quarantine 19 lbs heavier with glowing skin and hair due to extra time for face masks {check out my favorite face mask post HERE}. Here are 5 products that I have recently ordered.
- Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads – someone I follow {I don’t remember who!} swears by these, so I thought I would give them a try.
- SkiII Facial Treatment Toner – the brand is a little expensive, but fans are obsessed.
- Drunk Elephant Face Oil – I’m in love with this brand and recently ran out of the facial oil, so I decided to get the normal size, as I’ve been using the minis for a while.
- Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Mask – again, something I’ve seen on Instagram since quarantine!
- Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution – with all this rain and not being in the car most of the day, I am using this time to try new products for my dark spots and melasma!
2- Family Plans to Keep Calm
We are planners. We like to have a plan and know the plan. When this first started to look like it would effect daily life, we came up with a plan to stay calm as a family.
- Working Out: Working out daily is a must for me. It is so much more about my mental health. This was a top goal: for me to get my workouts in in an attempt to stay calm when knowing I wouldn’t have a break from the kids all day. Fernando and I come up with a schedule every couple of days for the next couple of day to ensure that we both get our sweat on.
- Leanant on the TV: We normally don’t allow our kids to watch TV every day and very few times have they watched an entire movie from beginning to end in one sitting. We discussed that we would be leanant on our own rule. I’ve noticed that they never ask for it in the morning, as we have never let them watch TV in the morning. Pre dinner, late afternoon {also known as cocktail time} has become when they ask for it, I’m thinking they are getting a little tired at this time of day.
- Communicate: With both of us trying to work from home, me being with both kids all day {I’m normally get 6 hours a week break with school} and the stress of daily life being at a all new height, we agreed early that we need to communicate. If we communicate and decrease chances for disagreements, we also decrease chances of added stress. Having this be the new normal, I am proud to say that us sitting down to communicate on how we want to communicate better has made this incredibly not stressful on our marriage or relationship.
- Work Priority: I am extremely lucky that my husband likes being a dad, likes being with his kids and makes his work schedule around being with them. Not all dads are like this, so I appreciate that. That being said, now is an extremely stressful time in the economy, so I agreed that my husband’s work would take priority. I have encouraged late night client phone calls and missing family meals to provide for his clients. Who knows how long this will continue and us, like everyone else, is financially concerned. With us agreeing that work would ebb and flow, and my and the kid’s schedule would have to accommodate, I feel like we are building ourselves up for success.
- Accomplishing Something Daily: I realized early on, that an hourly schedule with the kids did more harm than good. Not only was I more stressed out, but I felt like a failure if we didn’t keep on shceuld. News Flash: even those moms that are Insta-bragging that they are on a schedule have slip ups. As a meme I saw said, “There is no award for Best Quarantine Mom.” If I have a checklist or a goal for the day, I feel much better and like I accomplished something. I share what that is with the kids {go to the playground, clean the pantry, make a craft}, so they are aware that I have a goal for the day. Whether that be to get to the playground or keep the living room not looking like a tornado just came through, if I check something off my list for the day, aka “accomplishing something,” I am in much higher spirits and feel like a success.
