I’ve been very curios to try SoulCycle. My husband says I don’t have time for another gym membership, nor do I have time to fit another workout into my life. But, I really think that he doesn’t want me to try another workout cult/culture. {Raise your hand, OTFers!}
I chose an interesting week to try for the first time, since the company was getting backlash for hosting a Trump 2020 fundraiser, but, as I always do, I digress.
My friend, Kara, is a SoulCycle ambassador so when she invited me, I couldn’t resist. I was a little nervous to try it for the first time, especially with a pro, but I’ve feel, relatively comfortable in a spin class. The staff were extremely helpful, I tried the Del Mar location, setting me up with a locker and gifting me shoes for the class. They have people in the class before it starts to help you set up the bike to your measurements and they circled back around before the class started to make sure I was comfortable.
I loved the energy and the people in class with me. They were all shapes and sizes, and I was the only one in a tank. Naturally, I joined them in showing my midrift and I loved the girl power and body acceptance in the room and a part of the culture. I loved the repeated message that you were there for you and that nobody can see you, just do it! I think that I must have had in my head that the culture was like that Amy Schumer movie, where she is the thickest girl in the class, and probably worried that I would be her role. But this should NEVER be your worry in the gym or working out. You are celebrating your body, and you, by moving your body. It doesn’t have to be an overpriced spin class or even an overpriced workout class.
Be confident that you are awesome by being you. If that means you might workout once a week, celebrate that! I workout every day because it helps with my mental strength. It is “me” time, a time that I feel is selfish. But, on those hard days or bad days, I can look back and tell myself, “hey! You got to workout and move your body today! It’s ok that the dog just peed in your closet and that the kids won’t nap! You’ve got this!”
If the class schedule was better for my life, I would have definitely been back to a couple of classes by now, or at least bought a class package {shhhh, don’t tell my husband!}. I would highly recommend it and will go back. Go with a friend and then brunch after!
Saturday:
I tried SoulCycle for the first time! I went with a girlfriend and really liked the class. I would love to go back, but I am extremely surprised about the little class time options.
Sunday:
6am OrangeTheory – crazy, I know, especially for a Sunday. But we are trying to find a way for us both to workout on Sunday morning and still make it to church. This 100% worked this day and then made me go to sleep relatively early, especially for a Saturday night.
Monday:
6am OrangeTheory
Tuesday:
Sweat App:
Wednesday:
6am OrangeTheory
Thursday:
OrangeTheory – did the 8am class to make sure I sweated before we got on our plane for our last trip of the summer: Mexico!
Friday:
4 mile outdoor run in Mexico
1/2 mile walk outdoor in Mexico
Saturday:
3 mile outdoor walk in Mexico – My legs needed a break after 4 OrangeTheories this week and a 4 mile run the day before.
