happy august! If you are following along on social media, we are still in Utah enjoying our summer. All my channels are inundated with “back to school” and Halloween decorations. Hello! It’s AUGUST. Regardless, I’m not mentally in fall mode yet as my kids don’t start school until September {as it should be} and, like I said, we are still on vacation!
After 2 weeks in the British Virgin Islands with a quick turn around for the 5 weeks in Utah, thanks to Covid and a delayed trip to the Caribbean {thus the quick turnaround}, living in small spaces all summer has had me really evalutaing clothing items I have and really like.
Easy Dresses
It is no secret that these easy dresses are among my favorite. I wear them all the time, they are all over my feed, and they are literally perfect! They are ethically made {read more about that here}, meaning the women that make them are competitively paid and have access to healthcare coverage for them and their families. PLUS, they are giving my readers a 15% off coupon for site wide with code Hunter15. {The Charlotte are so great for teachers: comfy, easy to move and still look super professional.}
I actually wore The Brooke on the very long travel day back from The British Virgin Islands {with my favorite cashmere cardigan}. I was comfy, I looked pulled together even though we were working with about 4 hours sleep over 24 hours with 2 littles, and the best part? No bra needed!
Layers
While I much prefer the colder weather, rainy days and lack of sun {yes, I live in the wrong place. No, I’m not a vampire}, I have this constant worry of being chilly. Cue my favorite 100% cashmere cardigan. Not only is it a fraction of the cost of a nearly identical designer one that is very popular, but I take it with me everywhere. {movie theater, dentist, airplane, dining al fresco, etc. etc.} I’ve actually worn it over all my easy dresses this summer in Utah, much more than I thought I would. {I initially just packed it for the plane.} The sun doesn’t set until about 9pm in Park City, but then the mountain air gets a bit chilly. Also, obsessed with the fisherman sweater {under $100}. Size up on both.
Shoes
Going from the Caribbean where I didn’t put on shoes for days at a time {not even sandals} to Utah, where I change my shoes hourly {Birkenstocks, to running shoes, to hiking boots, back to the birks}, I feel like I might be a mild expert on this. I laugh remembering the days in my 20s where I would wear uncomfortable shoes for hours because “they matched my outfit better.” Welp, in your late 30s, comfort trumps everything, let me tell you. If my pearl and sweater set, monogram everything college self could see me now! My dressy shoe option for 5 weeks in the mountains? New Birkenstocks. My shoes for walking in the dirt and picking up the kids from camp? Old Birkenstocks. Don’t worry, I also brought a white pair that looks cute with my white striped dress.
For shoes, pack what is comfortable! Above all else. For 5 weeks in Utah, I brought said Birkenstocks, my favorite running shoes, hiking books and 2 pairs of high tops. Surprisingly, I haven’t worn these as much as I thought I would. Just like home, I’m kinda in leggings or dresses. Nothing really in between. {But I do think that these slip ons and these white high tops are going to be adorable with all my dresses in the fall and back in California.}
Athleisure
This time in Utah, my athleisure wear is working over time! I’m either in the gym, walking to the gym or hiking. I’m one of those people that rarely lounges in leggings. If I have leggings on, I’m about to workout, just worked out or thinking about it. They kind of work as a self motivator. For lounging I love the softest joggers ever. Favorite leggings are these high rise 7/8 length leggings. The fabric is insane and the hip pocket is necessary. I wear them for all my workouts and have loved the cell phone pocket for hiking. With this link, my readers will also receive the 2 leggings for $24 deal with VIP membership sign-up.
