Happy New Year!

Among my random collection of New Year’s Resolutions, one of them is to focus more on the British Royal Family on here and on my Instagram. It is a passion of mine, I spend my free time “keeping up” and, as always, love answering your burning questions about the House of Windsor via direct message on Instagram or email.

One of the items I wanted to discuss first was the idea of “fake news.” While one of my least favorite people coined this term, now with the constant “news,” breaking stories and the rush to sell celebrity news with countless gossip weekly mags, you have to be more careful and diligent what you read and believe. Take for example this “news” about Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton ‘fueding.’ {more on this next week} While my thoughts on this are long, much too long for one little blog post, consider your news source, my point of this post is to have you consider your news source and provide you with my favorite links for royal news.

Therefore I wanted to share the most credible sources for Royal News:

Where to get your Royal News
  1. @KensingtonRoyal – the official instagram account of Kensington Palace. This was created to cover mostly news and events of  HRH Prince William, HRH Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry, since they reside at Kensington Palace. Now, with Harry and Meghan moving to Frogmore Cottage at Winsor {more of this in next week’s post}, it is thought that this account will continue to focus on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children {William, Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis.} This account is extremely professional and curated. They do not deliver gossip and very few behind the scenes photos, focusing on official engagement and professional photos. That being said, this is where the Palace announced the engagement of Harry and Meghan, the pregnancy news and the official release of William and Kate’s and Harry and Meghan’s Christmas cards.
  2. Town and Country – This outlet has reporters that are extremely professional and official Royal Reporters, that are often talking to the Royals themselves or “insiders” or are at the events that they are reporting on. With sensational news always making headlines, rumor telling tabloids and constant speculation, it is extremely important to consider your source. A professional reporter from a reputable outlet is always a good place to start, instead of the magazines that you may see in the line at the grocery store. {not slamming any reporter, magazine or your personal choice for celebrity “news.” I am just sharing what to consider when getting your Royal news.}

3.  Elizabeth Holmes – @eholmes on Instagram. She has created the wildly popular ‘So Many Thought’ where she breaks down the fashion of the Sussexes and Cambridges. Watch her Instagram Stories and you will begin to wonder what you did before you had her thoughts. She saves them to her Instagram profile so you can review recent sitings of the Royals, such as Harry and Meghan’s recent Royal Tour or their Christmas day looks.

4. BBC News – Obviously, my favorite news source. This link directs you to the articles about the Royals. Not all of Britain is as obsessed and supportive of the British Royals as yours truly, but the British level of snark, always makes me smile.

5. Royally Obsessed Podcast – I love this podcast, that I was introduced to by following Elizabeth Holmes, that recommended to her followers and was recently a guest. While these ladies focus more on the pop culture aspects of the British Royal family and aren’t as passionate about the history of the British Monarchy, they are extremely well versed in extremely current events. Rarely, do they share news about William, Kate, Harry or Meg that I didn’t know, but they often share tons of news about other members of the British Royals that I wasn’t aware of. For example, their coverage of Princess Eugenie’s October 12th wedding gave me a bunch of content and news that I didn’t know. Plus, one of the ladies on the Podcast, Lisa Ryan, writes for The Cut, which is listed below.

6. The Cut – Lisa Ryan’s articles are, obviously, my favorite Royal articles on The Cut, since I listen to her podcast and can image her voice when reading her coverage. The articles on the Royals by Lisa are like chatting to a friend about the your favorite Brits but covering topics that you might not have thought about, like the recent PR push to get Prince Charles liked by the public or Meghan Markle being the most Google searched person of 2018.

The only time we’ve seen Prince George or Princess Charlotte on Christmas Day. Little ones are not invited to the Christmas Day Service with the Queen, since she is the Head of the Church of England and thus, Christmas Day Church Service is a very serious event. This photo was from Christmas Day 2016, where they went to church with Kate’s family, instead of with the rest of the Royal Family, as this was the only year that they’ve spent with the Middletons. 

7. Royalist Loyalist – this was an account that I started as a passion project around The Royal Wedding, since it was all I talked and thought about. I got tons of questions from friends, family and readers about topics that I thought everyone knew, such as how Elizabeth II became queen, changes in tradition for this wedding and line of succession. My captions are long and full of historical facts but I wanted to include this as a easy way to refer back if you ever had questions about more historical facts. There are so many fan accounts for all my favorite Royals that are much more passionate about a single family member or have more time to dedicate to being a fan than I do, so I wanted to create this account to focus more on the big picture of the historical impacts of the royal family, instead of beautiful daily pictures of some of the most picturesque people in the world {ummm, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle}. I have also included posts, to lighten it up, with Meghan’s favorite beauty products, so Duchess look a like dresses. 8. Vanity Fair – this is the Royals outlet of choice when they want to do an interview or PR push. This is where Meghan Markle was on the cover before her engagement announcement. {which I am extremely convinced happened month before we heard about it. I truly think it happened before their infamous Invictus Games first official appearance and before they revealed in their engagement annoutncmetn interview that it happened over a Roast Chicken, now coined Engagement Chicken.} This is also where Prince Charles had a recent feature to celebrate his 70th birthday and also as another PR push to make him more favorable in the public eye. No better way to do that then with pictures of him with his grandchildren.
